It all started back in 1984 when the world was introduced to what would become a massive science-fiction franchise directed by James Cameron and starring one of Hollywood’s favourite actors Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, a cyborg assassin sent back in time from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) whose son will one day become a savior against machines in a post-apocalyptic future.
Since then we have seen Arnie return as the T-800 in Terminator 2 where Arnie is sent back in time to protect Sarah Connor’s ten-year-old son John from the liquid metal shapeshifting T-1000 who had been sent to kill John to prevent him from becoming the leader of the human resistance.
In Terminator 3, Rise of the Machines the third installment of the Terminator films Arnie reprised his role this time to protect John Connor and his future wife Kate Brewster (Claire Danes) from a T-X, this was Schwarzenegger’s final film role before becoming Governor of California.
Terminator Salvation followed this without Arnie, the film follows John Conner and the war between Skynet’s machine network and humanity, as the remnants of the world’s military have organized form the Resistance to fight against Skynet’s killing Machines.
The most recent addition to the franchise saw Arnie back where he belonged once again in Terminator Genesis, this time alongside Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke who played Sarah Connor.
Well, finally Arnie is set to reprise his role again alongside original Sarah Connor, Linda Hamilton. It will be the first installment since Terminator 2: Judgement Day to feature both actors.
Terminator 6 will be directed by Deadpool auteur, Tom Miller with James Cameron back once again producing the new film. Terminator 6 will, in fact, be a sequel to the T2 film which has been one of the favorites installments for fans.
Filming is due to start in June 2018 with a release date for the film set for July 26, 2019, so fans will have a while to wait and see if this new film delivers.
