Big news coming out of Hollywood this week as Deadline Hollywood reported that the Cult short film Kung Fury is set to get a feature-length sequel.
For those who’ve been living in a cave for the last few years, Kung Fury is the awesome 80’s inspired short film by David Sandberg.
The movie pays homage to the over the top Action and Kung Fu films of the time all the way through to the Saturday morning cartoons we all used to watch in the 80’s and features some seriously cool moments, such as a Lamborghini being used a skateboard in mid-air and Valkyrie with machine guns riding a dinosaur, an arcade machine coming to life and going on a rampage in mid-80’s Miami and time travel via the use of a Nintendo Power Glove! It’s crazy but it works wonderfully.
Kung Fury became a huge cult hit in 2015 and now we are set to get a full-length sequel. Excited doesn’t even cover it!
The even better news is that Kung Fury 2 is set to have a big cast!
David Sandberg will produce and reprise his role as the main protagonist Kung Fury, the toughest martial arts cop in Miami who, in the first one, goes back in time to kill the evil Kung Fuhrer Hitler.
David Hasselhoff (Baywatch, The Spongebob Squarepants Movie, Nightrider) is set to reprise his role as Hoff 9000 and will be joined by none other than Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, Shame, X-Men) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator, Total Recall, Last Action Hero).
Yes, you read that right, Arnie and Magneto in a Kung Fury sequel, mind-blowing news right?
Not much is known about the plot yet other than it will act as a sequel to the huge YouTube hit. Whatever this turns out to be we have faith that it will be every bit as crazy and retro as the first instalment and with added star power it has to be great.
They will certainly be hoping it’s as popular as the first 30-minute film as that has racked up over 40million views on Youtube alone.
No release date is set for the project yet although it is set to start filming this summer, we will be sure to keep you up to date with any news as soon as it’s released.
