Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp the man behind District 9’s new project could soon be underway. Blomkamp’s new project will be ‘Robocop Returns’, a project based on an unused Robocop 1987 sequel script by writers Michael Miner and Ed Neumeier.
The first Robocop film first came out in 1987 and was followed by Robocop 2 in 1990 and Robocop 3 in 1993.
However, none of the sequels lived up to the movies promise. Robocop 2 stuck with the gory violence from the first film but RoboCop 3 was nowhere near as popular with the fans and was more of a kids movie.
In 2014 Joel Kinnaman and Gary Oldman were cast for the reboot but once again it proved to tame for viewers. So just what can we expect from RoboCop Returns?
Now it’s been confirmed that Neill Blomkamp will be taking the reins on RoboCop Returns, which will serve as a direct sequel to the original film.
RoboCop Returns will see the eponymous cyborg police officer Murphy return to action to clean up the violent streets of Detroit.
Blomkamp kept fans happy when he recently took to Twitter to answer a fan’s tweet on the new movie, confirming that Robocop Returns will be rated R and fans can expect huge exploding squibs.
Although no date has been confirmed for Robocop Returns yet, we will keep you posted on any updates we hear.
