Downton Abbey was one of ITV’s most popular period dramas in recent years, but like most TV series, the day comes when fans of the shows have to say goodbye to their favourite characters as the programme finally ends its run on television.

This is exactly what happened with the much-loved drama Downton Abbey, however fans of the series can rejoice a little as a movie continuing the beloved British characters storylines is moving forward, meaning that we will get one last look into the world of Downton Abbey.

As you will remember the series followed the lives and events of the Crawley family along with their servants. Viewers fell in love with Mr Carson the beloved butler for the Crawley family and were so happy when he finally found love and married the Head Housekeeper Elsie Hughes.

Everyone had a favourite person when it came to the cast, and it was a sad day for fans when the series ended after its sixth season. Almost two years after the show ended though it was announced that a movie was going to be produced by Carnival Films so that fans could once again rejoin the Downton characters lives one last time.

Earlier this year it was confirmed that the series original cast will return for the film, which is great news because would the movie really be the same if it didn’t have the cast that the viewers loved?

That’s right Dame Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Dan Stevens and Michelle Dockery will all be reprising their roles.

Viewers will also be saying hello to some new newcomers, so far Imelda Staunton(Harry Potter), Geraldine James (Alice In Wonderland), Simon Jones(The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy), David Haig (The Thick of It), Tuppence Middleton (Sense8), Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders),  and Stephen Campbell Moore (Goodbye Christopher Robin)  are some of the new actors/actresses to be part of the Downton Abbey movie.

After a few delays, the Downton Abbey movie has now finally begun filming, although a date has yet to be confirmed for the film its rumoured that it should be out sometime next year. We will keep you posted with any updates that we hear.
