A Star is Born

A Star is born is produced and directed by Bradley Cooper in his directorial debut. Cooper also stars in the movie alongside singer/actress Lady Gaga.

Cooper plays Jackson Maine, a hard-drinking country musician who discovers and falls in love with Ally, a struggling young singer (Gaga) who is just about to give up on her dream of becoming a big singer until she meets Jackson, who coaxes her into the spotlight.

However, as Ally’s career takes off, the personal side of her and Jackson’s relationship breaks down, as Jack fights an ongoing battle with his own internal demons.

Venom

Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), Tom Hardy stars as Journalist Eddie Brock in the new Marvel movie Venom.

Following a scandal, journalist Eddie attempts to revive his career by investigating the Life Foundation but comes into contact with an alien symbiote that bonds with Brock, giving him super-human abilities and a horrific alter-ego (Venom) as long as they share the same body.

Bad Times at The El Royale

Seven Strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royal, a rundown hotel with a dark past.

Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have one last shot at redemption before everything goes to hell.

Beautiful Boy

Beautiful Boy is a 2018 American biographical drama film based on the memoirs, Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction.

The film chronicles meth addiction and recovery through the eyes of David Sheff played by  Steve Carell who watches his son Nic Timothee'(Chalamet) as he struggles with his addiction.

First Man

First Man is a biological drama film based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen.

The film stars Ryan Gosling (La La Land) as Neil Armstrong, alongside Jason Clarke (Terminator Genisys), Claire Foy (Breath), Kyle Chandler (The Wolf of Wall Street), Corey Stoll (Antman), Ciaran Hinds (Justice League), Christopher Abbott ( It Comes at Night), Patrick Fugit (Gone Girl) and Lukas Haas (The Revenant).

First Man follows the years leading up to the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon in 1969.

Goosebumps 2

Goosebumps is back with its second film just in time for Halloween with Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween.

Friends Sonny and Sam find a manuscript in an abandoned house on Halloween Night. When Sonny and Sam open the manuscript, they release Slappy the Dummy who plans to create the Halloween Apocalypse with the help of his Halloween monster allies.

Now Sonny, Sam and Sonny’s sister Sarah, must work to thwart Slappy’s plot before all is lost.

Halloween

Jamie Lee Curtis is reprising her role once again as Laurie Stroud in Halloween 2018.

Laurie will once again have to confront Michael Myers the masked killer who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

The Hate U Give

Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds, the poor, mostly black, neighbourhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white prep school she attends.

The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witness the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hand of a white police officer. Now facing pressure from all side of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.

The Hate U Give is based on Angie Thomas’ 2017 novel based on the same name.

Serenity

Serenity is directed by Steven Knight and stars Matthew McConaughey as Baker Dill, a fishing boat captain who leads tours off of the tranquil enclave of Plymouth Island. Bakers peaceful life is soon shattered when his ex-wife Karen, played by Anne Hathaway tracks him down.

Desperate for help, Anne begs Baker to save her and their young son from her violent husband (Jason Clarke). She wants Baker to take him out for a fishing excursion where she wants him thrown overboard to the sharks.

Thrust back into a life that he wanted to forget, Baker now finds himself struggling to choose between right and wrong.

Hunter Killer

Hunter Killer is based on the 2012 novel Firing Point by Don Keith and George Wallace. The film stars Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman and Michael Nygvist.

When the Russian president is captured by his rogue general, Commander Joe Glass (Butler), commanding officer of USS Omaha, teams up with an elite group of Navy SEAL’s to save him. The American and Russians must work together to avoid worldwide disaster.

Johnny English Strikes Again

Johnny English is back for its third instalment in Johnny English Strikes Again, actor Rowan Atkinson returns as the accident-prone Secret Agent. The new adventure begins when a cyber attack reveals the identity of all active undercover agents in Britain, leaving Johnny English as the Secret Service’s last hope.

Called out of retirement, English dives head first into action with the mission to find the mastermind hacker. As a man with few skills and analogue methods, Johnny English must overcome the challenges of modern technology to make this mission a success.

So there you have it, it certainly looks like there are a number of great looking films to choose from in October.
