Believe it or not, it’s been almost three years since Netflix teamed up with Marvel to bring us the first season of Jessica Jones. That season would single handed change the way that we viewed the output from both Marvel and Netflix.
Here was a dark and adult Superhero series which didn’t hide behind humour or big muscles to tell its story. It featured one of the most twisted villains seen in a show and a troubled but ultimately strong and independent female lead.
With all this in mind, we are thrilled that Jessica Jones has returned for season two and rather fittingly the entire series has been made available to stream on Netflix from 8th March 2018 or International Women’s Day.
In case you missed out on season one we would highly recommend you watch it before starting season two, and make sure you watch The Defenders, Luke Cage, Daredevil and Iron Fist too as they are all linked.
Jessica Jones stars Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad, Don’t Trust the B in Apt 23, The Defenders) as the titular antihero. By day she’s a Private Investigator with a serious drinking problem and an attitude to match. Secretly she has super-strength which she seemingly gained after a car crash which killed her entire family as a child.
Joining Ritter will be returning cast members Rachel Taylor (666 Park Avenue, Charlie’s Angels, Grey’s Anatomy) as best friend and TV celebrity Patsy Walker, Eka Darville (Empire, Mr Pip, Power Rangers) as friend and assistant Malcolm and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix, Memento, Humans) as attorney Jeri Hogarth.
Whilst season one focused on her battle with the ultimate evil ex-boyfriend Kilgrave (David Tennant), a sociopathic killer with mind control abilities, Season two will see Jessica fight more of her hidden past as she tries to uncover just how she got her powers and who was behind it.
If this season is half a gritty as the first then we are in for another gripping watch that will make us fall in love with Jessica Jones all over again.
